Prostate Cancer Surgery
Jonathan has a specialist interest in pelvic cancer surgery. He completed a research doctorate in bladder cancer and his fellowship at Monash Medical Centre in prostate cancer.
Jonathan is one of regional Victoria’s highest volume prostate cancer surgeon, performing over 40-50 cases per year. There is a direct link between how many operations a surgeon performs and his results, both in terms of cancer cure and continence and erectile function. His outcomes are amongst the best in the state with transfusion rates of below 0.5% and continence and potency rates comparable with the best international series.
Jonathan is now also able to offer Robotic surgery at the Epworth in Melbourne or by referral to the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre for insured and uninsured patients seeking this treatment modality.
Urological Oncology
Jonathan has a specialist interest in bladder cancer and offers all aspects of urological care for patients with bladder cancer. His research doctorate and publications are in the multi drug resistance in bladder cancer. He manages patients throughout their cancer journey and offers diagnostic cystoscopy, intravesical therapy (mitomycin and BCG) and radical surgery where required.
Urinary Stone Surgery
Kidney and ureteric stones are a common and painful problem on the Border. Jonathan regularly manages these problems for both emergency and elective patients.
Treatment of Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia
Most men with urinary symptoms do not have cancer and there are many options available to improve their quality of life. Jonathan offers medical and surgical options for men with urinary difficulties, including transurethral resection of prostate (TURP).
Andrology and Infertility
Infertility is a devastating problem for those couples affected. Jonathan manages all aspects of male factor infertility and is the only surgeon locally to offer vasectomy reversal (vasovasostomy). He also performs vasectomy procedures and is one of very few surgeons happy to offer the procedure under local or general anaesthetic at the patient's discretion.
